Uta Kögelsberger is a London based visual artist whose work articulates and engages with social and political concerns through the languages of photography, video, sculptural installation and sound. Her practice develops out of a sustained involvement with specific sites over extended periods of time. Periods that often become the starting point for bodies of works that extend beyond the location to reflect on wider contexts.

Recent projects have included; Uncertain Subjects, a series of ‘action photographs’ in the public realm in response to the social and political landscape in the UK in the run up to Brexit (2017 – ongoing); Orchestra of Rocks (2016-2020) brining together sculptural installation, live performance and sound; the video installation Playing the Cave (’15) in response to changes in weather patterns due to climate change; and the photographic and video work Off Road (’08-’14) developed as part of a trilogy of works around notions of freedom in the USA.

Kögelsberger has been awarded the Stanley Picker Fellowship, the Berwick Gymnasium Fellowship, the EAA Award for Art in Architecture and the SPD silver medal for editorial photography. Her photographic essays have been published in Wired, Esquire, GQ and American Photography.

Her work has been exhibited as part of the Brighton Photo Biennial, Brighton as part of Art Night, London, at Bluecoat, Liverpool, Spacex, Exter, at Les Rencontres, Arles, at Southwark Park Galleries, London, Danielle Arnaud, London, the Architectural Association, London, the Barbican, London, and Laurence Miller Gallery, NYC, and the Glassell Project Space MFAH, Houston. It is held in public and private collections including the Museum of Modern Art, Houston and LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum).
